Learning Expectations
The CPS grading scale: A=90-100% B=80-89% C=70-79% D=60-69% F=59% or less
Aspen Grading Codes: M = Missing, counts as zero. EXC = Excused, does not calculate into the student's grade. INC = Incomplete, returned to student and needs to be re-submitted within 24 hours Your graded work is your record of your grades; you will need this work in the event of an erroneous entry into Gradebook. Students and parents should check Aspen weekly. Late Work Policy for Classwork/Homework The consequence for missing work is to complete the work. Late work will be assessed a 10% penalty deducted from the assignment’s earned score. E.g. earned grade 88/100 -10 = 78/100 Academic Honesty It is expected that every student exercises academic honesty, which means completing your own work. Copying off of someone else’s document is considered cheating and plagiarism. Any student found to be involved with cheating will receive a zero on the assignment or test (this includes both the student who copies and the student who allows them to copy). In middle school, students are expected to do their work without the assistance of a parent or adult in order to provide an accurate picture of student performance. Drop-Dead Deadline for all Work: However, like life, there are non-negotiable deadlines. All late work for that grading period must be turned in prior to a progress report or report card being issued. Work is due by 3 pm on the dates listed below. Work for that grading period will not be accepted after 3 pm on a drop-dead deadline. Work turned in after these deadlines will not be graded.
Resubmit Policy Re-submitted work is due within 3 days of being returned to you. Your corrected work along with an explanation (e.g. your thought process, why your correction is now correct, how you made a mistake), may earn you up to half of your points back. E.g. original grade: 84/100 (-16 pts.) => maximum resubmit grade: 92/100 (+8 pts). *Any late work is not eligible for re-submits. **Writing is a process; therefore, students are encouraged to continue polishing their essays to submit their best drafts of their work and these drafts will be accepted until a week before the quarter ends. Students receive two homework passes* each quarter: a homework pass and 1-day homework extension. *Only to be used on homework assignments, not classroom assignments. *In ELA -- that is Membean or AoW only. Frequency of Updating of Aspen While checking Aspen, be mindful that some assignments take longer than others to grade, and it is the goal to provide meaningful feedback in a timely manner. Sometimes, it may take a week or more for grades from a submitted assignment to appear. Request for Extensions If you will not be able to submit a major assignment on time, you may request an extension. To request an extension, please include the following in an email:
Google Classroom Guardian Summaries Guardians may opt in to receive a Guardian Summary of Google Classroom, which sends either a daily or weekly status about student assignments in Google Classroom. Please email your student’s homeroom teacher if you would like to receive Guardian summaries. Once added, you will receive a summary from all of your student’s Google Classrooms. Attendance
Please submit a request at least two weeks in advance. We’ll ask you for additional information in order to write a stronger letter. Teachers are not obligated to write references for any student who asks us. We strive to write references when we can be very positive and specific about students' strengths.
